The Chiron, named after the Monaco-born racer Louis Chiron was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016. With a power unit sporting 16 cylinders, four turbochargers and capable of developing a staggering 1,500 brake horsepower, almost every component in this Chiron engine has been newly developed. The phenomenal full top speed is believed to be around 290 mph.

Master-minded by Achim Anscheidt, current Head of Design at Bugatti, this masterpiece of engineering was designed to hark back to the traditional mechanical complexities so revered by Ettore Bugatti himself. This was an attempt to create something very different from contemporary engine manufacturers such as Ferrari and McLaren with their leanings towards hybrid technology. Such mechanical mastery is very much a part of the model-making process and thus we have here a perfect synergy of design ethos and execution.

The first engine model Amalgam has made since the early 2000s, this very highly detailed and meticulously finished example echoes the same large 1:4 scale model previously made of the Ferrari 049 engine that powered the F1-2000. Measuring in at 44 cms (18 inches) long and 22 cms (9 inches) high, each individual material in the engine has been carefully and artfully reproduced at scale using special finishes as befits the Bugatti Chiron design.

The accurate replication of the actual engine has relied heavily on Amalgam’s close relationship with the Bugatti design team. With some 1,040 individual parts, this 1:4 replica shows every visible detail of the engine right down to the numerous parts labels and barcodes.
