We rarely have the opportunity to capture photographs of our models in a fitting context, but two of Amalgam’s long time patrons have generously shared these beautiful shots of their house in the home counties. The first of an edition of fifty Spitfires was commissioned, along with a remote controlled rising display allowing the model to be raised and lowered to view from above or at eye level.
The sailing yawl Florinda was captained by our patron’s great-great-grandfather in the late 1800s and won many handicap races on the Thames Estuary. A fully detailed fine wood model was commissioned, and as perfect reference we were granted access to digitally scan and photograph an original 1870s model of Florinda, probably created by Camper and Nicholson the yacht’s builder, at the time of her design. That original model resides in the world’s biggest collection of ship and boat models at the Maritime Museum. The Amalgam ‘reproduction’ is in truth, of a very much higher quality than the original, which was likely used to present the design to the first owner of Florinda. It’s wonderful to see two pieces of our work so much at home in these perfectly poised and elegant surroundings!
